Winter 2016/2017 project
Converting 1981 Compac 16 "Lillyanna" to a fishing and sailing trawler
The quote above is of course from Quint, from of Jaws lore. I love sailing, and I love fishing. The Compac 16 can be well-adapted to do both. This section details a winter basement project to build a pilothouse and additional fishing accessories to convert the Compac 16 to a small, ship-shape, classic-look 16' Pilothouse Trawler.
I modified my 1981 Compac 16, to accommodate two outriggers, two downriggers, a pilothouse, and steering wheel. The design retains the option to rig Lillyanna with jib and mainsail, so that she can continue her adventurous life as a fine sailing boat.
My plans are shown in the the drawings below; which are understandably, by necessity, a compromise between many design variables. The boat will be designed to be quickly rigged a fishing trawler or as a sailboat with the mast, boom , jib, and shortened main from a 1981 Compac 16 (I recognize this will raise the center of effort of the sail and reduce sail area, which will not be improvements in sailing performance). The links below show my progress on this project.

This sketch shows the boat with the trawler mast hoist assembly. The boat will also be able to be rigged with the original aluminum mast and boom when used as a sailboat.
