Materials used in the building of the SCAMP "ARGO":

Link to the Homepage of the Build Log of the SCAMP Sailboat ARGO

  • Plans: Purchased from Small Craft Advisor. Sail number is assigned when plans are purchased. ARGO is SCAMP sail #349
  • Rudder and Centerboard: Wooden blanks purchased from Small Craft Advisor. The rudder and centerboard come in two halves each, with the wood already shaped to the correct foil section.
  • SCAMP Marine Grade Plywood kit purchased from Small Craft Advisor
  • SCAMP Tanbark Sail made by Neil Pryde, purchased from Small Craft Advisor
  • Pine and Aspen from Menards
  • Sitka Spruce for spars, from McCormick Lumber Madison Wisconsin (photo below of the lumber on my car)
  • Fiberglass cloth, Epoxy, and various fiberglassing tools: from Duckworks Boat Builders Supply www.duckworksbbs.com. Epoxy is MARINEPOXY; I am very pleased with it so far. Easy to work with, no blush, and the odor is very minimal especially compared to "bondo" epoxies I had used in the past.
  • Epifanes Gloss Spar Varnish from West Marine
  • Mahogany for small wooden cleats on boom and tiller, from Menards
  • Extra sheet of Joubert marine grade okoume plywood, from Kettle Moraine Hardwoods in Hartford Wisconsin.

  • Davey and Co bronze rudder pintles and gudgeons from www.greenboatstuff.com

  • Stainless steel and silicon bronze bolts, nuts, and screws, from www.boltdepot.com
  • Palo Santo (Argentine Lignum Vitae) for cleats and fairleads, from Rockler
